School Advisory Council (SAC)

What is SAC?

School Advisory Councils (SACs) are composed of family members, school staff, students (grades 7-12), and community members working together to enhance academic success and foster strong partnerships. SACs meet regularly to discuss ways to improve student achievement, teaching effectiveness, and community engagement, creating a platform for collaborative and innovative solutions in education.

The School Advisory Council (SAC) at Horatio B. Hackett is:

A collaborative group of parents, staff, and community members working together to support student achievement, improve school climate, and strengthen family engagement. The SAC serves in an advisory role, helping guide decisions aligned with school and district priorities. Members meet regularly to discuss key issues affecting the school and initiate volunteer-driven programs in support of the Hackett community. All families and community members are encouraged to participate. The Hackett SAC is committed to building a strong, inclusive school community where all voices are heard and valued.

Mission
The mission of Hackett’s School Advisory Council is to foster meaningful family engagement and support, strengthen community connections, and champion initiatives that promote academic achievement for all students. Through collaboration and inclusive participation, the SAC strives to create a vibrant, supportive school environment where every voice and helping hands contribute to student success.

Hackett SAC is excited to introduce Hackett Helping Hands: Green Team: a once-weekly, kid-friendly hour of service where parents and caregivers lend a helping hand side-by-side with their student(s) and other Hackett families. The Green Team will meet on Thursdays from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, starting on Thursday, March 12th. Each student must be accompanied by their own parent or caregiver.

Here’s how it will work:

1. Schoolyard Cleanup Ambassadors (3:30-3:45pm)

At 3:30, grippers (trash pickers) will be made available in the schoolyard to collect litter. When children invest their own time maintaining a space, they naturally take better care of it. These quick 15 minutes encourage students to take pride in their school environment and will make a noticeable difference in the cleanliness and appearance of our school-yard and surrounding school-grounds.

2. Science Experiment Prep for Classrooms (3:45-4:30pm)

Around 3:45pm and after the cleanup, Green Team will assemble in the library to help prepare materials for upcoming classroom science experiments. Hackett’s new science curriculum involves significantly more hands-on activities and science experiments. This is wonderful for learning, but very time-consuming to prepare. By assembling science kits and organizing materials, families will help give teachers back valuable hours that they can devote to instruction and supporting students.
